Where is PolyLine in DraftSight?
- Go to Draw Menu> PolyLine OR
How to use PolyLine ?
When you run Command then it will ask for Specify start point in command line. Click in GA to Start PolyLine.
Then it will ask for Specify next vertex» Click in GA to Specify next point . It will draw a line between these two points and Command is still running.
Now it will ask for Next Vertex point and so one.
PolyLine function Offers few Options as Below.
Options: Arc, Halfwidth, Length, Undo, Width, Enter to exit or
Specify next vertex» l
1. Arc : Once you click Start or First Point in GA choose Command Line option ARC by inputting ‘a’ Next to ‘Specify next vertex’ then Enter
Now this command will try to Draw ARC entity with some additional options:
Options: Angle, CEnter, Direction, Halfwidth, Line, Radius, Through point, Undo, Width, Enter to exit or
Specify arc end point»
You can Specify arc End point or choose any option and Draw Arc in GA. (know more about how to Draw Arc )
Additionally you can Draw Arc with Half width option we will see in detail below.
Note: At any Point when this command is Running you can Undo by one step or Enetr Exit to Come out from Command.
If you want to Come back to Line segment while using Arc option then type ‘L’ and Enter
2. Close: When you choose Close option then PolyLine will close itself and Connect a Line between PolyLine end point to Start point. hence Command will end .
3. Half Width: You can specify Half Width by Specifying Start and End of Half Width. Both values can be same or Different based on your use.
By Default Half width is 0 and When you specify Start half width then it will be default value for end half width.
Note: Half width is symmetrical to both side of Line, i.e. If you set half width 1 then it will be 1 unit both side of line center.
Specify next vertex» h (Enter)
Specify start half-width» 1
Specify end half-width» 2
4. Width: This is width of line segment.
If you use this option after above Half width operation then default width value will be double to end width of half width .
So again in same way as Half width Specify Start and End Width . Here Note basic difference between Half width and width.
Width value is Total width of line
Note: Once you have started with options Width or half width you need to specify start and end width points in GA to come out and use another option or polyline or Press Esc and Start command again to use other options in PolyLine.
5. Length: With Length option you can Specify Segment Length by entering value or click in GA .
Specify segment length» 10
Note: If Width or half width values are already set then Length command will draw line segment accordingly.
To Solve this you need to set Width or Half Width Start and End width to 0 and then start command again to use Length option.
Tip: Make sure to Enable ETract & ESnap options from bottom Status bar. You can change settings of these option by Right Click over these Tabs and Select Settings.
Keeping Ortho on will be useful if you want to Draw Lines Horizontally and Vertically specially to Draw Rectangle from PolyLine.
